Lombaradini LMG4000 water pump

Total shot in the dark, but does anyone have/know who really makes the seawater pump on a LMG4000 generator so that maybe I can find shaft seals for it. Been trying to get from dealers for days plus I can't accept that a flexible belt driven water pump on a $6k generator can possibly be $1k.

Can you post a photo of the pump?

Well when I get back ti the boat I’m going to be taking that pump out and if I can not identify it I’m going to find a replacement make. The thing I’m NOT going to do is pay over $1000 for an OEM pump on a generator that cost me $5600 less than 2 years ago!

Re: Lombaradini LMG4000 water pump

My Lombardini LDW1404M (marine engine, not generator) has a Swedish Johnson water pump">Raw water pump, as do many of these small diesels. Very likely yours is also a Johnson?

The seals on mine are standard oil lip seals, for both the water side and the oil side (my pump is engine driven).
Seal is GACO DPSM 122407 for a 12mm shaft (24 OD and 7 width). Cost is a few dollars.

I am very interested in the your photo showing a water filter, which might be common but new to me. I do have the usual strainer, but I have regular problems with grit scoring the shaft. A new shaft has damaged after 18months. I'm trying a narrower seal to move the wear spot of the lip seal itself. Any others suggestions?

It took 2 weeks but I finally got part number and price $16 for the seals. But it also turns out that my pump is under warranty, so I’m waiting to see what they are going to do. If I get the seals I’ll definitely take measurements to find the real source.

Usually there is a number on the seals, maybe starting with CR? Depending of course on who makes them.
I have had pretty good luck taking them to a Bearing and Drive store and they can usually take a caliper and give me a seal. Sometimes you can get a double lip seal that is otherwise identical. I’ve had better luck with double lip seals myself.

It took weeks, but they are sending me a new pump under warranty. I’m still going to order some seals as they were only $16 as OEM

Then you should be able to overhaul your old one, and have a spare?
Are they letting you keep the old one?
