Re: Four ladies row from California to Australia

This was covered on UK news briefly but hey, they're only women after all!

Who have done the most incredible, hard grind thing imaginable in this day and age. 9 months rowing the Pacific ... I'd not contemplate it.

Get 4 women together anywhere and a row is inevitable.

JK. Well done to these ladies, great effort for a very worthy cause.

Can't believe I haven't heard anything about this on the news. Where'd they make landfall?

Re: Four ladies row from California to Australia

Yeah. Rowers are amazing!

Right now two young Hungarians (Levi and Norbi, boat Kelle) are just like 4 days from Antigua - two months away from Canary Islands! And another pair (Scots - a brother and sister pair, boat Fifty Fifty) have just been towed into Lanzarote after a 2 months passage from ... Portugal.

Man, these people have guts and stamina.

I wonder if they consider themselves 'sailing' or 'cruising'???

Cheers,
b.

After a gruelling battle with the elements, the Coxless Crew made history as the first all-female rowing crew to cross the South Pacific Ocean.
The six-person British crew left San Francisco, California in April 2015 and arrived in Cairns, Australia on Jan. 24th after travelling more than 8,500 miles (13,679 kilometres) and spending 257 days at sea, according to the team's Facebook page.

Either this is a scam or a tremendous loss of opportunity due to no marketing. They could have raised millions for their cause by marketing this event throughout the boating world. Would have been free press for them. So does sound a bit suspicious as to its being held in secret.

Ah ha, the detail. Did they take turns rowing, while the others rested on a 400 foot yacht?

Nope.
The crew was made up out of three permanent members and three others each rowing a leg.

Re: Four ladies row from California to Australia

There was a fair bit of press in the UK, and they hope to raise at least £250,000 for two charities, not too shabby.

Maybe they did not want to turn their achievement into a media circus.
