DUfour 35

Has anyone taken the pre classic model offshore or know anyone who has? I am planning to leave in a little over 2 years in the final stages of adding gear.

i would be interested in any responses. I am looking at purchasing a Dufour 36 cc.

I used to sell Dufours when I was a yacht broker in Annapolis ten years ago. We considered the Dufour to be a pretty well built yacht. Not as good as a Pacific Seacraft, but certainly better than a B/C/H.

Perhaps a good comparison boat would be a Jeanneau. These (at least back then) were built with floors and stringers rather than a fiberglass pan. Furniture was well tabbed to the hull. Hardware was a step up from the B/C/H boats.

One big negative was the way (10 years ago) waste holding tanks were installed. They were an afterthought stuffed into the vertical space behind the head. I certainly wouldn't want all of that weight sloshing around offshore. But no one in their right mind would keep a full holding tank offshore.

Have you any knowledge specifically of the 36cc from 1999/2000? She was bought by the previous owner in NC in 2007 and brought up to Canada. I am looking at her as a live-aboard in the carribean with the possibility of some offshore sailing.

Thoughts?

If you know of any in your area I'd appreciate being connected with current owners.

I have friends from Montreal who are completing a circumnavigation in I think it is a 35 built in the 80's.... is that the model you are talkng about? They were quite impressed with their boat. PM me for contact info if you want....

We used to have a 30' Dufour Arpege. Older, but also designed by Michel Dufour. Man, what a great boat! Handled heavy weather like a dream. Very well built and engineered.

Yip Marcus is one of outr little group. Actually selling his D35 in Aus, or trying to. Arpege was a great design, they are still many offshore today.

25 years ago when we first started this madness the D 35 was at the top of our list. Wonderful boat! Unfortunately we found the decks had lots of de-lamination right around the cabin top. Couldn't find another one but we sure wanted that boat.

I know of two that sailed across the pond. As far as I know, they are fine, safe and well sailing boats. And I do like the way they are inside too.

Hopefully a third will be off within a month. :-) We are somewhat lower in the water now but am hoping she will still sail.

my 1975 Dufour 31 has sailed to bermuda and back no problems. Imagine a 35 would do just fine.

Before we can sail we have to refit our sailboat.
That will take 1 or 2 years i think, because we will do the whole interior and also the outside.

I am aware of the balsa core deck, but as far as we can see there is no ploblem with the balsa yet.

From time to time we will upload a video about refitting our little treasure.
