Question Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

The poll is revealing a very solid consensus. Not!

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

Why not meet at the Galveston Yacht Basin, there is more than enough room for boats of all sizes as they have a large Transit dock and a huge parking lot for 300-500 cars and a great big open room with tables and they most likely would open the bar! I am sure they would support it if they thought they could get a few overnighters with drinks! You could even get your boat pulled as they have a huge traveling lift as well. Just a thought, look at their web site to see the place.
have a good one,
bill

It don't get better than that! so far 2 to 1 so we are 50% there already, just a few more votes.

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

If I'm around I'd be agreeable to meeting in port A. If someone from the Galveston area wanted they could crew with me and catch a car back or buddy boat down. However, my preference and vote would be Galveston. I don't think I'd make Matagorda. Most of that area isn't conducive to a 6'2" draft.

Btw, don't get me wrong about the TMCA, I was a member in the late 90's, but when it became the TMPA I left. Party is ok but something about numerous falling down drunks loses it's family appeal. Not something I wanted my wife and daughter around. I hear it hasn't changed much.

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

In theory the Matagorda channel is 12 feet deep x 200 fee wide the whole way from the mouth to the ICW. Have you hear reports to the contrary? ActiveCaptain shows that as of 5/23/13 it was still 12' throughout.

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

They main channel isn't the issue. Marinas and anchoring are. Had some friends down there in a similar boat and they had to wallow their way into a marina.

Being FROM here is why I vote for something AWAY Port A or Rockport is way better sailing IMHO.

Correction OG, we'll not likely be in the Cat. She is now the "shantymaran", and while still mobile, I'll likely hook up the trailer boat and take the easy way out

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

As another thought, Army Hole would be a GREAT place to meetup, closer to the middle, and capable of servicing deep-ish drafts up to 7' from what I've read (6' that I know of first hand). The down side is that only shallow draft boats can sail around Espirito Santo Bay, the rest will have to stick to the channel.

Re: Texas Cruisers Forum Meetup

That does sound like a good place. We should have the whole former state park to ourselves.
