Hello from Texas

Hi everyone, I am new to the site. I am a retired Merchant Seamen. My highest rank was bosun. I am now disabled getting back into the sailing world . I could use advise on sailing with a handy cap. Hopefully from some that are mobility impaired as I. Thanks and a real pleasure to meet you all.....bosun1967.

Re: Hello from Texas

Welcome! I think you will find some company here as Texas seems to be fairly well represented on this board.

Welcome aboard, bosun. What size boats will you be sailing. Our local community boating association in Boston has rhodes 19's rigged for sailors with disabilities.

Re: Hello from Texas

Welcome aboard. I sailed with a paraplegic, he lived aboard his cape dory 30 ketch. I myself am recovering from a brain surgery that has caused some glitches. My balance was very bad one year ago, but now it is really good.( I live aboard) You might find that the boat makes for some great PT😀. Best advice, but hard to follow~ Take it slow.
Glad you are here. Happy sailing.
Erika

Howdy from Dallas!

I recommend reading some books by Tristan Jones.

He continued to sail after losing his ability to walk.

And let's not forget Long John Silver too.

Good luck!

Great idea Steady Hand!
My friend sailed RTW solo, was the first deaf man to do so. His book just came out.
