Refit in South America

Hi There,

I am looking for an affordable shipyard in South America that can handle a 96ft sailing yacht. I would like to do a lot of work myself yet, am in need of welders, painters, carpenters and expertise in electrical marine engines.

Is there anyone out here that has experience end or tips?

Thank you very much!

Thank you GordMay!

Do you have any experience with one of them?
Apart from the skill sets available I would like to know how corruption works in those countries as I have seen the very scary situations in South East Asia a few years ago.

96' is big! Try looking up Todomar in Cartagena, Colombia, though I doubt they can haul anything that huge. Is there a compelling reason (other than $$$$$) not to go to Ft. Lauderdale, Savannah, or Newport, RI? These places have big boat facilities.

Hi.

A few tips;
My experience with labour in Brazil is disatrous. Admittedly I have worked only in Nordeste. Maybe South will be better.

Panama: ditto. Colombia: mixed feelings. (I do not know the Pacific coast).

I would probably try Argentina, Uruguay or - not exactly South America - St. Marteen.

Hi,

I am Canadian and living in Lima, Peru and I am building a 53 ft sailing yacht. No problem with the labor force! I don't know jf the shipyard can handle your yacht, I will check and get back to you.

several years ago I had my catamaran at Alwoplast in Valdivia / Chile. Skilled technicians and workers. Also best engine repair by recommend by the yard machanic near by. I would recommend to a friend.
Smoot sailing!
