Just a suggestion, you'll probably get more responses and better responses if you give a little more information, especially regarding the type of boat and your own experience level, both with sailing and passage making.

Re: Atlantic crossing November 2017

If you can afford cheap Ryanair flights, fly down to LP, walk the docks, talk to skippers during the take off period. This is very common. There are also other take off points I think most notably Lanzarote. I believe there are two rallies that start from there.

Good luck!

Cheers,

Re: Atlantic crossing November 2017

I wrote "looking for helping", I meant that we are a crew available to go and sail, so we are looking for a boat and a skipper
Thanks for the feedback. I will make sure to be clearer next time...

Do you smoke?
Do you drink?
Criminal record?
Marital status?
Vegan/vegetarian/carnivore?
Are you a talker, a listener, strong political feelings, musician?...whats your personality?

You are asking someone to allow you into their home, and to trust you to care for it while they sleep.

I also volunteered as crew across the atlantic. When I was researching the trip, I came across this joke:

When you get to the Caribbean, customs/immigration will ask you 2 questions. 1) How many people aboard? 2) And how many did you start out with?

I thought this was pretty funny. Until I got mid ocean with a skipper who's wife left him (over the sat phone). By the time we got to Antigua, the "joke" was not funny at all anymore.

Re: Atlantic crossing November 2017

A cheap flight over to Las Palmas is definitely the way to go though obviously better if you can find a vessel first. However swarms of people looking to cross in LP, to the extent it can be quite disheartening going around every day and not finding a yacht.

Lanzarote is where Jimmy Cornnel’s crossing commences. A smaller, arguably more intimate cruise and perhaps not as easy to find a berth

Best of luck anyway. Have sailed it twice and an amazing unforgettable experience you wont regret.

Re: Atlantic crossing November 2017

You will likely hear many questions. Some odd, some funny, some serious.

Some of the questions you will hear will clearly tell you this one is not the boat you want to be in.

Beware of silly skippers with strong views. Some people just can't tell the difference between a sound interest and a full blown interrogation ;-)

Taming a skipper may in the end turn out to be more difficult and time consuming than finding a lifelong partner. Ask my partner.

;-)
