hi francois
are you at the yacht club? I know it well!
this refers to the snowgoose elite 37,not the older snowgoose, where the rudders are transom hung.
the rudders have pintles on the bottom of the skegs that need removing first.
on the
rudder shafts in the aft
water tight compartments are clamp on lever arms each with 2 bolts these need loosening, the rudder will now drop down if you have sufficient clearance, you will need to chock the
boat up high as they need to drop about 70 cm.
once you have the rudders out they need cutting all around on the join which follows the leading edge and trailing edge.
best tool to do this with is a disc grinder with a thin 3mm metal cutting disc.
separate the two halves, and remove damp foam
core.
you can then remove the stainless shafts with welded on tangs, and get them rebuilt or replaced, check for
electrolysis,if there is severe
electrolysis I recommend replacing with new, shaft is 1" 316 stainless, but 25mm should be okay if no1" stock available.
rebuilding you need to re glass in the stocks and tangs to one side of the rudder shell making sure they are central and vertical to the moulding.
once this is done join the 2 halves together using
epoxy glue and cloth along the join.
once this is done with a 30mm hole
cutter drill 2 holes in the bottom at each end.
this is where you will pour in expanding 2 part polyeurathane foam to form the new
core.
once this is done fill the holes with
epoxy ,tape over, fair the rudder, paint with primer and anti foul,re install.
on the rudder bar linkage is an adjustment threaded bolt for fine tuning the rudders so they are both central.
