The Office in Morocco

When I'm not delivering boats I usually Skipper commercial vessels. This is a crew transfer vessel working out of Nador in Morocco where a Dutch company are dredging a new harbour.Click image for larger version

Not a clue. It's like another world up here in Nador. Not to many yachts in these parts.

I have been assured that it will be open by July, and have received from them a price and a confirmation of a berth for this coming winter. Also that lift out will be available, but uncertainty what services will be operating.

So I am hopeful, but we shall see...

Re: The Office in Morocco

I was there 5 years ago and in Tangier they were not cruiser friendly. Very overcrowded with fishing boats etc I was told to leave. I left but it was blowing very hard (October) so turned back in and a friendly fishing boat took my lines and eventually the authorities agreed I could stay. The yacht club was very shabby but work was being done on a marina the no knowing when it would open. Same result in Casablanca.... Very unfriendly. Totally opposite in Mohammedia which WA one of the friendliest managers you could wish for, now sadly retired. Agadir the only really modern marina my European standards.

once upon a time i was tied up in Safi waiting for a SW gale to subside so i could continue on to the canaries.

having some repairs to do i was wandering around the industrial area looking for alternator parts, when i was approached by an arab lad who invited me to meet his family in broken english, since it was hot and i was tired from walking round, and he was quite insistent i accepted his offer ,he led me a few blocks untill we reached an upstairs apartment.

upon entering i was introduced to an older lady and her daughter who offered me tea and asked to sit ,then asked the normal questions like "where from, was i married, how many children etc"

the young lad by now had dissapeared, so i was a bit bemused by the company and situation, which was pleasant enough, but having run out of conversation in my broken french about my family,,the mother broached the subject of how much i would pay to have sex with the daughter!

it suddenly dawned on me that this was a brothel!
so i bade my farewells and beat a hasty retreat, after thanking them for their hospitality........i'm not sure who was more bemused!

not quite what i had expected in conservative southern morocco on a weekday afternoon!

I was ther begining of May. Tanga marina exist only on the web. Royal Yacht Club - established in 1925 - looks like the same. I was answered only on channel 16 and,was placed in the old port alongside the pier in between of 2 power local boats .The port is filled with the fishing boats and seems like the peeling and cleanins the fish right there.Thousands of seagulls - they have a loudspeacker playing a preadator bird crying,to frighten them - but gulls don't give a heck. Local stuff - marineros, police, customs are very freindly,as well as local people in the old town. Concret pontons for the new marina are ready,as as well the new fishing port quays. So,maybe it will be open in a couple years...Inshallah!
