Important notice - FNQ Queensland Cruising Sailers

Hello all,
very very important notice to sailers cruising the far north Queensland Coast of Australia. Notice to Mariners 273T of 2015. Shoal Water Bay Closed from 2nd October 2015 to 26th November 2015 "INCLUSIVE" !!!!!
The notice clearly defines an area that is prohibited to enter due to Military Live firing exercises during this time. These areas include but are not limited to the anchorages around Townsend Island, Island Head Creek, Pearl Bay and Port Clinton.
Please check the notice and amend your passage plans accordingly as we are about to do. But first I will be sending a email to the powers at be to advise them of what total idiots they are closing down such an important and safe anchorage for so long in the height of cruising season. This will mean either many changing plans to overnight passages or extremely long days and the reduction of safe harbours to enter in the event of adverse weather.

Thanks for posting this: we have friends at Airlie Beach, expecting guests, and we'll let them know tomorrow. Oct. 2 to Nov. 26 seems a long time for it to be closed.

Link to Notice for those needing co-ordinates (includes a map):

https://publications.qld.gov.au/data...2-086c247d2c55

A simple rule to avoid the exclusion zone: Do not go inside the 37NM long line between Peak Island and Cheviot Island; alternatively stay less than 4NM West of the marked 2 way shipping route over that leg.

Re: Important notice - FNQ Queensland Cruising Sailers

Hello all,
just an update, I contacted the range master for the defence force today and it was confirmed that there will be no last minute amendments and that the anchorages in the Shoal Water Bay area will be closed necessitating a long haul from the Percy or Duke Islands to Great Keppel Island or Rosalyn Bay marina. Oh well thats cruising. Apparently the Singaporean Navy is exercising with our lads and it will take them two months to find the single Singaporean fishing vessel, sorry naval vessel.

Ha ha don't be fooled, Singers have some pretty well equipped Navy vessels, & there Air Force is nothing to be sneezed at either, I've sailed through there many a times, and have always been impressed with their ships.

Just say'n

They won't find anything that is in Shoal WaterBay if they go looking in Far North Queensland

Unless they have over the horizon radar
