Meanwhile in Florida....

The already-exploding population of burmese pythons in Florida has led to an infestation of the Everglades, and the death of thousands of native animals. However, they might not even be the biggest issue on the agenda. African rock pythons are the largest snakes in Africa, reaching 20 feet in length. They feed on animals the size of antelope, and sometimes even crocodiles.
Farmer in Florida was missing sheep, installed electric fence and this is what he found next morning. Yikes

Oh Florida. Dear Florida. Poor Florida. Well, at least you're not impacted by climate change or ocean rise, and hey, you've got that "stand your ground" law! That'll make those nasty snakes think twice!

Re: Meanwhile in Florida....

Actually I got this wrong... that snake was in Africa, but there are concerns about the species being in Florida....

Trust me...snakes are not the reason people choose not to move to Fl.

Re: Meanwhile in Florida....

This news broke just after Christmas 2016:

9-foot python found wrapped around Biscayne Bay dock in Florida - UPI.com

That's right -- the pythons are swimming north, and will soon land on beachheads from Crandon to South Beach to Mar-a-Lago, crushing and devouring all in their path. Prepare for the Python Apocalypse!

Well . . . I joke about it, but as someone who swims in Biscayne Bay periodically, and likes to snorkel well offshore, this is somewhat alarming news. . . . .

You know, I was wondering why we weren't more excited. Snake is tasty! Makes good jerky and dried meat bits too. I don't get to eat much snake in Alaska, lol, but godfather was a floridian half the year and used to bring me back weird game meats and stuff to broaden my palate. He also taught me to shoot. And drive. He was the best!

Re: Meanwhile in Florida....

Thanks for the laughs, ya'll. They are not joking about square miles on end in the Everglades being devoid of critters, birds, you name it. We are waiting til they get hungry and start heading into Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton, Palm Beach. As for keeping people out of FL, it is not working. The population is over 20x what it was when I grew up here. Soon as I can get done with business at hand and sell the house, I am outta' here!
