making a mooring pick up line for a yacht

Hi Annette here. I am interested to know if anyone tell me how to make a mooring pick up line. I went to Whitworths and purchased a small bout, some floating rope and a weight and need to go to a hardware store to purchase a long tube of hard plastic. But now how do I make this into a mooring line pick up. Any help please from a, Australiannette in Sydney

Re: making a mooring pick up line for a yacht

Hi,
The weight gets mounted as low as possible in/on the wand, with the float just above it. And the line/cordage can be attached to the bottom of the wand, just above the float, or to both spots via a bridle. And the main mooring line gets connected to the float's bridle line, so that when you lift the wand, along come your lines.

There are a few pics here Defender.com Search Results: mooring float pickup See the Taylor Made Super Deluxe ones.

In principle they're much like an MOB pole, where the weight down low keeps the pole vertical, & the float of course keeps everything afloat. Forespar OP 120 / 150 Man Overboard Pole
