Trying to find a slip or mooring spot near Orange Beach, Ala.

I am in the process of buying a 34' C&C yacht with a 6 ft draft. I can't seem to find a slip anywhere that will take that deep a draft. I have considered mooring but don't have any idea where to look. Any help will be appreciated.

You might do some searching using www.ActiveCaptain.com as a resource. It lets you pull up maps of the area of interest, & it shows all of the various resources in said area, including marinas. Along with their contact info, etc.

You can make your own mooring for less than $500 including labor.

+1 Active Captain. Doing a search showed 11 marinas in that Perdido Pass area, some of which report 7-8 ft drafts. Since the site is really social media, you need to take the navigation info with a grain of salt. Take a trip with a weighted line in a dinghy with the harbor master before you sign-up for the season. Remember your Gulf Coast 2-foot tide, and another foot or two for insurance and neap tides.

Not to sound too stupid, but how does that work? I have set a many of mobile home screw moorings before and often they take quite a lot of twisting force to get them to screw into the ground, how do you do that underwater on Scuba?

A longer lever arm through the pin. Or, sheath it in a PVC tube, with a lock pin through the top of the screw, drill holes along the length of the PVC, and screw it in from above water, inserting a rod into the holes in the PVC to twist.

I've installed a smaller one than Spade's in the Chesapeake and found it pretty easy to get down five feet or so. Only broke one broom handle
