Navionics slow, connection failures

I'm trying the Navionics iOS app and getting frustrated. Right now anything that requires Internet access - account login, chart download, online help, etc. - is not only painfully slow but appears to bog down my connection.

Other users: is this typical, or is there a temporary problem somewhere? (I note in passing that their website also seems to be having problems right now.)

For information I use Speedtest and normally see download speeds of 30 Mbps or a bit higher. When running Navionics and trying to connect to their servers I'm getting results considerably lower than that.

Thanks for any insights.

Re: Navionics slow, connection failures

I am using the Navionics android app here in the Bahamas.

Fast download and good function with the use of wifi hotspot.

I was surprised how quick the program came down with the associated charts.

I am also checking the accuracy against printed charts so that I don't make any mistakes.

I am adjusting to electronic chart plotters slowly because what they show on the chart is often different depending on the amount of magnification on the display.

Sometimes I feel like the navionics is a trip to fantasy land, so I go slow and cautiously in areas where I could possible get hurt.

Re: Navionics slow, connection failures

It appears to have been a local network issue which has "healed" itself. FWIW my steps to that conclusion were:

- Tried downloading using cell data; worked perfectly.
- Confirmed that problem still existed on WiFi.
- Checked router settings and rebooted router; no improvement.
- Gave up and went to bed.
- Everything worked perfectly this morning.

So I still don't understand but it's now okay, I'll live with that.

Many groundings reported in Bahamas w/Navionics. Stick with Explorer charts or older Garmin (they used to use Explorer charts data)

Re: Navionics slow, connection failures

I'm reviving this old thread to pass along new information.

I still see the problem (slow downloads, dropped connections) when on Navionics on home Internet. But if I connect through a VPN it works like a charm.

So, who knows, Navionics and my ISP are fighting, but this fixes it.
