Buying a non VAT paid foreign flagged yacht in Greece

Hi

I am currently looking to buy an Australian flagged yacht in Greece, I am a UK national and looking to buy the boat and initially keep it in Greece, it is currently on the hard in the Peloponnese, the owners have returned to Perth

Can someone help my understand the tax status, I am UK registered, and the boat will be a private ownership, not commercial, the VAT has not been paid on the boat, and it is registered in Perth, Australia

Thanks for any help

You will be liable for VAT being an EU/UK citizen/resident.. also possibly CE certification if it is not already.

Hello,

The boat you just purchased probably has a transit log already get the new papers for the boat and go to the local customs office to cancel the transit log.

Since you are a UK national you are required to pay VAT on the amount mentioned in bill of sale. You need to sort this out with customs in greece. If you want to pay a lower vat for the boat 9% you can do so if you sail to Malta and register the boat there. You are allowed to sail a non EU flag boat as an EU national for only one month.

Have a look here if you like
