Engine Model: Isuzu 6BD1 150HP diesel.
Closed circuit cooled with large seawater heat exchanger. Hoses were replaced and the heat exchanger was cleaned in 2017. Coupled to the engine is a new damper plate installed in 2017. Borg Warner Velvet Drive 71C transmission. All exchangers, as well as the wet exhaust muffler, are anode protected.

After the transmission, there is a universal joint and PSS drip-less shaft seal, followed by three cutlass bearings replaced in 2010.

Large bronze prop and Max-prop folding prop.

The engine powers the vessel up to 13 knots, and consumes roughly 1.5 liters per nautical mile at 5-6 knots.

The engine room is located below the cockpit and is big. You can walk around three sides of the engine and there is plenty of room to store tools and supplies. Access to the room is via a hallway connecting the front and back half of the vessel. Alternately, the floor of the cockpit lifts up and away.

Air supply is via two blowers and a Walker Airsep that reduces engine room odors.

All fuel stored in the 250 liter starboard tank is polished before it reaches the 250 liter port tank. The polishing system employs a high speed transfer pump and Parker Hannaford 2 micron filter. Fuel from the port tank is then filtered with an additional R510 Racor 2 micron filter.

Batteries used to start the engine can be charged with solar panels, portable genertor, or the smart engine driven alternator.

The engine driver watermaker was replaced in 2016 with a Spectra watermaker that runs from the solar panels.

Spares include: Starter motor, alternator, damper plate, anodes, belts, new water pump, and filters.

When Richard Barrie and wife decided to build their second trimaran they commissioned Jay Kantola. Kantola and Barrie had collaberated on other vessels built at Barrie's place of work. Barrie was not simply a backyard builder. Barrie worked as a professional built builder at Western Boatworks in California. Kantola provided the vessel designs and Barrie supervised the construction. Likely you have already seen one of their most famous vessels. The scale model in the Titanic was built by the Barrie/Kantola team. See: Western Boatworks | Epoxyworks

When Kantola drafted this trimaran, he was able to draw upon his prior 30 years of trimaran design experience. Windchime SV is a ketch and one of his earlier trimaran designs and has been in service since 1973.

Kantola trimarans have two box walls that support the two ama. These box walls can also support masts. Therefore, it is possible to use a single forward mast, two masts, or an aft-mast configuration.

This trimaran is believed to be the largest that Kantola designed. The two ama are large enough to convert into crew quarters and could house as many as 10 crew members. The connection arms (aka) that join the center hull to the two ama contain multiple vented compartments. These are great for storing fuel and propane.

In total, there are over 100 storage areas.

Barrie selected two primary materials to build this vessel from. West System epoxy and Duracore engineered end-grain epoxy planks. When these planks were laid up, and then sealed between layers of fiberglass and epoxy the result was an extremely strong and light construction.

Importantly, for the current owner this was also a construction technique that made vessel maintenance easy. All decks were painted in 2017 with two pack epoxy paint.

Bottom paint for most vessels is an absolute necessity. However, for an epoxy vessel that is totally impervious to water, bottom paint is simply a convenience to reduce marine growth.
**********************************************
Beginning at the bow there is a large cabin with one queen sized bunk. This cabin has storage lockers, shelving, and large volumes of room below the bunk. Under the floor large storage tank that has never been put into service.

Moving from this cabin towards the stern we come to two starboard side bunks. These large bunks have storage compartments and a large shelf under the lower bunk. On the port side, is a large head with walk in shower and full size sink. Below the floor of the head there is a 70 gallon black water tank. The wall between the two areas is the dagger board trunk. 6 storage compartments service are located in the head.

Continuing towards the stern you have to duck your head to get through the forward box wall. This is one of two box walls that join the main hull (the Wa'a) to the two ama. The Thai painting you see in the photo below was painted onto the forward box wall. You can see the mast step just to the right.

Not shown is the Yamaha CLP-320 full size keyboard on the starboard side. Above that is the Sony 600 Watt Marine Amplifier. The galley is on the left of this photo and the range and sink are not in view. Port side counter tops are Corian. The oven, located on the starboard side, is a new full size Italian Ariston stainless steel oven. The oven is built into the navigation desk not shown.

A hallway leads to the back of the boat and leads past the engine room.

Ducking your head a second time you have now passed by the second box wall. That second box wall enables the boat to be utilized with a single mast in the front or back, or a configuration with two masts.

The area you first enter is a large head. There is one wall hung sink, and one large shower with a privacy surround. The toilet is located within the shower area and privacy surround.

Opposite the head there is a cabin area with two bunks. Storage in the walls and below the lower bunk an below the floor.

The very stern of the boat is the large owner's suite. It has a king sized bed and storage below and to the side.

The insides of the two ama were modified in 2010 and 2016 in anticipation of turning them into crew quarters. Ventilation needs to be installed before they can be occupied by as many as 10 crew. 10 crew? Well, if the vessel becomes a commercial operation, it is anticipated that quite a few crew will be needed.

If the vessel becomes a day sailing boat for tourists, the two rear trampolines can be easily be converted to solid deck surfaces with seating for 20 passengers each side. These areas can also easily be shaded.

Again, the current owner can make modifications for you or even participate in your plans to use the vessel whether it is for pleasure or business.

Re: 65' Kantola gaff rig trimaran

I have attached an XL spreadsheet that lists most of the cruising trimarans that I could find on the web that are currently for sale.

There are really not that many.

If you are selling a trimaran and want me to add you to this spread sheet leave a reply here with a link.

The spread sheet is designed for cruising trimarans that have:

....comfortable long term living accommodations
....an inboard diesel engine for long range motoring.

This said, the spread sheet does have some of the smaller and older trimarans that have outboard gasoline engines. I selected these based upon being large or famous like Newick, Horstman, and Crowther.

There are is a large number of folding trimarans that would make a good separate file. However, since I am not offering a trimaran like that, I have not included them.

Re: 65' Kantola gaff rig trimaran

I updated the spreadsheet and found a few cruising trimarans to add.

One has dropped off the list and may have sold or the ad is no longer active. That is the Horstman. The only other change is one of the Neel's has dropped price.

Re: 65' Kantola gaff rig trimaran

Three more trimarans were added to the spreadsheet. One was an advert right here on Cruisers Forum. A converted Walker Wingsail was added as well.

No price changes...However, there was significant devaluation of the US dollar so nearly all prices of vessels not priced in USD rose in price.

One vessel may appear to have dropped in price from $40k to $30k. It actually wasn't a drop in price. I did not notice the price was in Australian Dollars and didn't convert to USD.

Again, if you have a cruising trimaran in the range 35 ft to 75 ft with a diesel engine leave a link here and I will add it to the next spread sheet.

Re: 65' Kantola gaff rig trimaran

New price $244,900

It has been almost two full months since I last updated spread sheet. I have one potential partner interested in my boat. However, he has to sell house first. Therefore, I am still on the market. I have had a few inquires but nothing solid. Therefore, I am dropping price over $45,000 down to $244,900.

None of the vessels on the spread sheet have sold or are listed under contract. All vessels other than USD have gone up in price as the USD continues to slide. For one big trimaran that meant over $50,000 increase in price.

Only one vessel dropped price. That was the 45 ft Walker Wingsail. It cut price a modest $10,000.
