Liveaboard Marinas

We are thinking of trying a 4-5 month liveaboard on the east coast. We are retired and have grandchildren in Middletown, DE and Vienna, VA so would like to be somewhere in between. Do not want a large city like Annapolis or Baltimore and would probably prefer something not directly on the Atlantic but a little more protected. Also would like to be fairly near a nice beach so that grandchildren could come and stay on the boat and go swimming fairly near by. We would winter in Florida so do not need to worry about comfortable winter temperatures. Does anyone have any experience in this area.

Thanks

4-5 months isn't really a live aboard. Your seasonal. I would look for a marina and rent a slip for the season and use the boat. No need to even mention that you're a "Live Aboard".

Don't have any great recommendations, but... given relatives in DE and Vienna, VA, you might look at Tracy's Landing/Deale (e.g., Herrington Harbor North) or Solomons Island MD.

Otherwise,

a) Annapolis isn't really a "large city"

and b) when we go walkabout (cruise-about) we usually assume we'll have only our bicycles for local ground transport... so one criterion if we're going to be in one place for quite a while (e.g., 3-4 months) is about public transportation.

We've found it helps to be in a place with available public transit routes to likely destinations (groceries, etc.)... and we last stayed in a destination marina for several months, we picked one that would shuttle us to various nearby locations. Even then, we've had to augment that with the occasional Uber or taxi service. And the occasional car rental.

Friends who have been in the same place with us either returned home to retrieve one of their cars or had one of theirs shipped.
