Having a boat in Malaysia region

Hi, I'm new here. I grew up with a boat that we used extensively during summers, but have not had one now for 20+ years. I miss being on a boat and have started thinking if I should get back into it. I'm currently partly based in Penang Malaysia and wondering about having a boat here.

How is the costs to have a boat in this region ? I assume some manual work would be cheaper, but as there is not so many marinas etc to chose from that costs might be higher, as will parts.
Anyone have experience with how it's to have a boat in Penang? Would having it in Langkawi be a better option?

What else to consider about this region?
