Eastern Caribbean Charts?

I've got OpenCPN on my Mac, works very well. I have the KAP-charts from OpenSeaMap which are useless for anything beyond playing around. I'd like to find charts at a reasonable cost that I can use for OpenCPN.
I have MV Charts on my Mac, so I don't want to use their charts as it would be the same. My aim is to have access to a difference set of data for comparisons and backup.
I use Navionics on a Raymarine Chart Plotter on the boat.
Can anyone point me to an inexpensive set of compatible charts?

Re: Eastern Caribbean Charts?

We spent 6 years in the Caribbean using a Dutch planning chart, Navionics and the Doyle cruising guides. We had paper charts but never needed them. However, once you get to Spanish speaking western Caribbean we found everything to be marginal except for Brauhaus charts of Panama.

Yeah, I'm not saying I need another charting application. NV Charts is very good and confirms the Raymarine chart plotter. I'd just like something decent to load into OpenCPN.
I do have the Raymarine Voyage Planner on my windows VM, so it gives me the same charts as the chart plotter and the ability to edit waypoints, which is handy.

I suggest o-charts.org. look them up in the manual under charts, also has a plugin. Most reasonable approach for opencpn users.

Re: Eastern Caribbean Charts?

I've spent one season there. I have Garmin on may cockpit chart plotter, Navionics on my nav station chart plotter, NV and some S-63 charts from o-chart on my OpenCPN computer. I think for the coverage NV is a good buy for OpenCPN in the Caribbean. The more info the better to compare charts with what your eyes are telling you.

Sorry, forgot about that. I use my Macbook as my primary computer but have a small cheap Win machine for the OpenCPN at the nav station.

Compatible with what? With Eastern Caribbean?

NV Charts. Great charts and a decent app.

Re: Eastern Caribbean Charts?

If somebody wants to look for the coverage by "Official Charts" (S-63) you can go here:
ArcGIS Web Application

Compatible with OpenCPN. I have NV Charts, works very well, and I have a Raymarine Chart Plotter with Navionics. I just wanted to get OpenCPN working with decent charts so I could use some of the features.
