i joined couse i have quite a bit of experience with sailing -> Adriatic sea; my family owned sailing boats from 6m single hull to 9m catamaran and we chartered bigger boats in Croatia also
done boat's leader license and had 6 months of GMDSS class but didn't get any license

edit:
in school we done firefighting; SAR; first aid licenses etc etc etc in order to have practice lessons so done practice for 1 month on a motor boat with 2 engines of cca +300hp of thrust (Volvo Penta)
been on a lot of boats, ships, shipyards, simulators -> engine, cargo sim and arpa radar

Welcome Aboard. I also did a course leading to a Coast Guard License. Passed the course but could not pass the color vision test. So, no license. I am sure your GMDSS class was taught you a lot.
