French Inland Waterways with Family

We will be sailing to Dunkirk the first week in September to lower our masts and carry on to Paris. Our family of two children, 5 and 11, and two adults will continue the trip toward Roanne. We would appreciate contacting any other family cruisers going along this route or moored along this route.

Make sure check local depths. The summer has been very hot.

Probably more of a problem if you continue down South.

Thanks, we have been trying to keep an eye on depths because of drought but can you recommend a way of doing that?

Google up their waterways authority. There are gauges at many locks / bridges.

You can also join a French forum and ask local people there.

Hello

I think it is best to visit Voies navigables de France (voies navigables de France) where you can read from the authority about everything you must know to navigate the french waterways. On this site you can also buy the vignette what is compulsory to navigate. The site is in severalt languages, also in English.

My boat is not where you plan but I sailed up the river Saone this summer with my grand children (10 and 12 years old). They liked it and had much fun as I had.

Good luck.

James,
Thanks, we have most of the literature and have studied the videos but our problem is the drought at the moment and after that hopefully is settled in a positive way, then we would like to travel with another family for our sons' sakes, which of course means our sakes...
