Lost in a sea of Electronics....

So I have yet another question about networking existing electronics on a boat, apologies in advance for the length, and if anyone can point me in the right direction Ill buy you a beer if we meet somewhere!

My current set up is primarily Furuno with wind, depth/speed, radar, gps all feeding into a Nav Net 3d. I also have an em trak AIS connected to the NavNet and a standard horizon radio.

There is no network backbone, instead everything (apart from the radio) runs through a Furuno junction box with a CAN port feeding the Nav Net.

I would also like to install a Raymarine tiller pilot.

The goal of this is to get the laptop and navnet running individually (and accept that the tiller pilot will only run through the laptop)

So after a few hours of reading my untrained eye is seeing three potential options:

-can I install a multiplexer with a seatalk port for the tiller pilot and then split the NavNet NMEA cable to feed both the NavNet and also the mulitplexer which would connect to the laptop?

or do I have to, in essence, split each data feed going into the junction box so each instrument feeds both the Nav net and the multiplexer separately?

Finally, the furuno junction box has a port to attach a CAN Backbone cable. Is it possible to then connect that backbone cable (via a box of trickery) to the laptop?

Any and all thoughts welcome!

Re: Lost in a sea of Electronics....

If everything goes to the junction then the junction box is your backbone. Each end of the backbone needs to be terminated.
You can go nmea2k to a laptop via an Activsense adapter.
