Whoa! We live on the north side of San Antonio, and it takes us 2 hours door to door, if we don't stop. Sept 1, the speed limit is supposed to go to 75. That should get us door to door in less than 2 hours. To downtown San Antonio, subtract 15 minutes.

Island Moorings is a decent hurricane hole. The financial situation there has been up and down. If they can keep the channel dredged, it's a good spot. However, in the winter, plan on 5 feet max. Nice pool too. HOWEVER, in the warmer months, the mosquitoes can be challenging. In CC, we rarely have them, because of the wind.

Being completely honest... Kemah is one of the best areas of the country for supplies,etc. CC... not so much. We have a West Marine, that's it. I order from the WM in San Antonio, and pick it up on the way to CC on Friday. For yards, we're pretty good. House of Boats is the BEST DIY yard on the coast. If you are less than 30,000 lbs, the CC City Marina can pull you.

We really miss some of our friends in Kemah, and all the "stuff" to do. But, the sailing in CC is just plain the best there is. Seriously. If you like to sail, this is it. Also, you are sailing 5 minutes after you leave the slip.

I was thinking of moving the boat this next week, before I begin a new job. The weather doesn't look too cooperative though. We'll just stay where we are for now, I guess. It's a long drive, but we really do love it there.

First! I want to thank all of you for your responses. This has given us way more information than we EVER thought we'd get and we really appreciate the thought you've all put into your responses. CC sounds like a good place for us and the CC City Marina also sounds about right.

We'll be flying out to San Antone next month and will check everything out then. Bill Streep... would like to be in touch when we get there. Seems like we'll be neighbors part of the time as my company is in North SA on Concorde Plaza. Would also like to get together with anyone else who's out there.

With respect to the rest of the posts, I'll try to answer some of your questions here. If I miss anyone's, please let me know.

1. We're narrow for a cat (19'8") and generally fit into a standard 50' slip.
2. Our draft is 4' so we don't need much depth
3. I'm not going to be driving up to SA on a daily basis (heaven forbid). Will probably go up on Monday morning and come home on Friday afternoons and not every week as I'll also be telecommuting.
4. We rode out Wilma in '05 at the Miami Beach Marina (117mph sustained) so if the marina is reasonably protected (MBM was not), I think we'll be fine, unless 'The Gods' have other plans for us.
5. If a really big storm is headed our way, we're fast and can bug out pretty quickly providing we have enough warning so we'll be looking for hidey holes or good haulout places.

That sounds like the Kemah boardwalk, all the restaurants belong to Landry there also. All 8 or 9 of them.

And here I am again. Have been working in San Antonio since the middle of May and have had time to really check out Corpus. It's nice town, but the city is really dead and there's not much to do overall. Had an opportunity to spend a couple of days at in Kemah and it's a good fit for us, so we're going to berth SeaWolf in Clear Lake for the next 12-24 months and then drop the lines and do some cruising for awhile. Kemah is great and Clear Lake is exactly what we're looking for. Will certainly miss the crystal clear waters of Florida, but this is a new adventure and we have always had the wanderlust in our souls, so we know we're going to enjoy our new home.

Anyone who is living in Clear Lake, do give us a shout. We expect to have SeaWolf in her new home by Labor Day weekend.

Loree - I can certainly understand. The pluses for CC was the short drive, and the much superior sailing and water quality. For Kemah, it's friends and a great place to be.

You might also need to know that once football season starts the last few miles of the commute to Kemah on Friday nights gets VERY, ugly. I don't miss that. We could get home on Sunday in 3.5 hours, but it took 4.5 hours on Friday night.

Have received some really good references on the place, so we're comfortable that we'll be happy there. If not, there are certainly a lot of other marinas in the area.

PERFECT!

We have actually considered doing this, since the Admiral is now retired (school teacher), and spending every other weekend there - taking a 4 day weekend. We might just do this - not sure yet.
