Advice on a windlass?

We recently purchased a 44' Simpson cat that has very little to nothing on it. I think our designed displacement is about 14,000 lbs.

For the windlass we're looking at a Lofrans Tigres but when we use their windlass calculator (on the website) to figure which one is appropriate, it doesn't seem to work.

Is anyone using one of these on a similarly sized boat? If so, what do you think of it? If not, what are you using and what are the pros and cons?

Re: Advice on a windlass?

Dear aj676

If you wish any assistance please submit your query at Lofrans' Anchor Windlasses & Capstans Contact Us Page and our team will be glad to provide any assistance.
It would also be great if you could let us know what data you filled into the windlass calculator form fields so we can track down any bugs.

All the best,
Lofrans

It is good to see another OEM participating in CF. Direct communication with OEMs will so often solve problems better than well meaning advice from lay CF members! Witness the good interactions with Vesper Marine!

I agree Jim.
Gone are the days a wax sealed envelope enquiry goes round a few horns and back. Only to recieve the wrong deadeye manual.

Re: Advice on a windlass?

Thanks all-
We did get in touch with them and it looks like its the correct windlass. The Lofrans rep was VERY helpful and provided good information and a simple calculation that answered the first question.

I guess I was also looking for any thoughts on what everyone else is using and what to consider when purchasing one in general. We've been reading a lot of data and info on them and had originally posted in the multihull section in hopes someone with a similar boat had any experience and could tell us how it's worked out for them, etc.

Thanks again! ....on to research the next piece of the puzzle.

Re: Advice on a windlass?

+1 on the welcome Lofrans. Love the product. Yanked many apart, typically lack of use is an issue. Some problems with corrosion and would recommend owners remove fasteners and reapply something on those threads. Regular maintenance.
