Tank Tender and cross-tank contamination

I scored a new Tank Tender that is able to take readings from 4 different tanks. I'm thinking of using it on my water tank, fuel tank and holding tank. I'm somewhat worried about cross-tank fluid or fume contamination since it appears that all for tanks use the one gauge.

I know the tender works by pumping air into the tank being measured.

Has anyone seen an issue where fluid gets siphoned back up the hose and into the unit?

What about fumes?

No - the tubing is minuscule. Nothing comes through it

Re: Tank Tender and cross-tank contamination

the pump draws from the outside and fumes are heavier than air... they are not coming up the tube, and even if they did, if you look at how the work, the volume that could cross is miniscule...

I've used them for years on multiple tanks, fuel, water with no issues. If you use one for all, including holding tank, make sure to order the one for a holding tank. This permits a higher pressure purge, keeping the pickup from fouling.

I see you already have the TT. You can order a holding tank retro kit directly from TT if you go the holding tank route. I did this, and it is not a difficult fix.

Re: Tank Tender and cross-tank contamination

My tank tender is a 6 reader I recall, 2 are unused. Diesel/water contamination is not a problem on my boat

Re: Tank Tender and cross-tank contamination

Non-issue in normal operation as no fluid leaves the tanks via the tubing. Only a small amount of air, equal to depth of fluid in tank, is pushed back into the tube. The length of this tiny column of air is normally much shorter than the tube to the manifold so this little column of potentially contaminated air would never come anywhere near the manifold.

If it really worried you then you could probably install a HEPA filter in the tubing. Though it would take some creative use of adaptors unless someone makes a HEPA filter for that size tubing (which is very tiny).
