The Hunter 23 kicked my behind in Lake Erie on some swells. I can't imagine the electronics holding up and you would need to spend quite a bit to refit in electronics, navigation, sails, water holding (water making) solar power even. Not to mention the hull. I have no blue water experience, but the Hunter in the great lakes on questionable sailing days took a beating and did not respond or point well in the conditions.

My own opinion for your safety. Safety in a budget boat comes at a high cost.

There is nothing wrong with a Hunter 23 for weekending.

I would assume crossing an ocean would make you somewhat odorous?
