Chrysler 26 sailboat

Hi all. Thanks for helping on my other posts. I finally purchased a sailboat. It's a 1979 C26. From what I have read around the web, these are well made boats.

It's in good condition overall. I will post pictures of the C26 tomorrow or Friday. That's when I will be at the boat next.

The head area has the blue stuff all over the floor. Owner says that the replaceable bag burst. It has a porta potty. Where do you find replacement bags? The main sail is trashed. However, there's a replacement in the saloon area on a settee. Has a running 7.5 hp Sears 2 stroke. Has a Coleman camping stove setup. Uses the little cylinder. I will post pictures of this and post. I am sure it's not safe. But I think it could be easier modified to be safe. If not, I will remove it. This C26 is the fixed Keel outboard setup. Under the cockpit is a berth. I don't like the berth there so I plan to remove it and possibly put a double door dorm fridge and eventually a small 3 cubic ft chest freezer.

Thanks again for all the support forum.

Pictures 9 and ten show the stove setup. The last picture is of the replacement main. I didn't get to check the mast to see if the plugs fit.

Re: Chrysler 26 sailboat

I had a chrysler 22 for several years for inland sailing, and I liked it a lot. It had a swing keel, and we trailed the boat to Maine from Kentucky and back with our Toyota FJ-40 years ago. Good fun. Good Boat.

Re: Chrysler 26 sailboat

I have heard they are good boats and fun. Easy to maintain too. At least it seems to be. 2 sails, porta potty, hand pump sink and the propane camp stove. Obviously clean and paint the bottom thru hills etc as well. Seems very simple thus far.

Re: Chrysler 26 sailboat

Quick question.

The C26 came with a sea sense 400 sport inflatable boat. I can't find any info on them. What is the carrying capacity?

Also, the plate on the C26 that lists the number of people weight etc, is not legible. Is it possible to get a new plate? I will take a picture this afternoon when I am back on the boat.

Thanks.

Bill

Re: Chrysler 26 sailboat

I owned one for two years. It was named Typsy, and how appropriate. It was the most tender boat I have ever been on for a 26 footer. I was two foot draft with board up, perfect for the keys. I have never heard of a fixed keel version. It was designed Hirschoff and sailed very well. My wife and I slept in the v-berth and our two boys in the aft berth.

Re: Chrysler 26 sailboat

I am not sure what you mean by it's a tender boat.

Saildata lists some info about the fixed Keel. However, I have read drafts ranging from 3'11" up to 6'2".

I went on the Chr ysler owners association website and it lists the 3'11" for the fixed keel.

I have read they are well made, easy to sail, and low maintenance. I will try to get better pictures today. Going to swap out the dry rotted main that is currently attached to the mast with the replacement in the saloon. I hope it goes well as this will be my first time trying.

Re: Chrysler 26 sailboat

Well I am currently aboard the C26 and it's not moving at all. Currently in a slip on grand river in Fairport Ohio. Tomorrow morning I will be on the lake. I am in a fixed keel. Owner said 4 ft keel seems about right. I will take more pictures tomorrow.

I cut off and disposed of the main sail and the carpet. I did find a good size hole in the floor behind the stairs. Not exactly sure why it's there.

So far very happy with my purchase.

Re: Chrysler 26 sailboat

Having trouble figuring out how to work the roller furler.

Motored out to lake Erie this morning. Been sitting here at anchor fishing and trying to figure out how everything works. Didn't figure out how to remove the rest of the main. Haven't really tried. Was going to play around with the jib. Lost track of time.

Boat really started rocking out past the breakwall. Was not expecting that. Boats really good in the river channel and here inside the breakwall.
