Cruising to the Bahamas

I recently bought it Tobago 35 foot catamaran and I hope to head to the Bahamas west end around the second week in February and I wonder if there's any other sailboats that would like to cruise along with us. Most likely will be leaving from Fort Lauderdale looking for a weather window.

We are planning on leaving from Fort Lauderdale to the west end it's 68 miles. We want to sail the sea of Abaco , Marsh Harbor, Man of War,Hopetown that area we were there a couple years ago and it was absolutely beautiful want to go back for a month

Just be prepared for what may be a long wait for a window. Feb can be rough.

Keep us posted on your progress. Sally and I are dealing with nearly 25' of snow since the first of the year and it is almost as good as MOW. We return on March 28th. Hopefully you will still be there.

If the wind is favorable, it's fine.

Just don't go with a north wind and you will be fine. Give a shout when you get to GTC if you need anything

Hurricane season does not end till the end of November and there have been storms later than that. There have also been strong cold fronts arriving earlier than the end of November.

Point is in the right weather window crossing from Florida to the Bahamas is a day sail that should be easy but in the wrong weather window it can be a nightmare.

if you have an ssb there is a cruiser net for folks in the Bahamas and on the east coast of the usa - a ton of boats go over in Nov Dec ect - you should not have a problem - but ssb helps

Chuckr would you recommend an inexpensive handheld device.

What do you do?; just put it on scan and wait for transmissions from people that are talking about sailing to the Bahamas?

Hopefully, this doesn't sound like a stupid question; because I DO wish to travel in a flotilla for obvious reasons.
