Pearson 39-2 problems

I've been looking for information on any problems with the Pearson 39-2 sailboat, they were built from 1987 - 1989. It has a shoal keel (4'-3" draft) with a drop down board (7'-9" draft), I believe that it has a balsa core in the hull below the water line, but I have not been able to confirm it. I looking at a 1987 year.

I do not have the -2 model, but I just purchased a '73 Pearson 39 and the primary things my surveyor stated about the boat was that you had to keep an eye on the decks for soft spots around the stanchions and be fastidious about rebedding the big non-opening portlights if/when they began to show signs of leakage. No major issues with the v-drive if it is kept dry and the oil is changed regularly. He kept commenting on how solidly the boat was built throughout the entire survey and assured me there was no reason I would not be able to make the eventual Atlantic crossing I am planning in the future. The PO had already beefed up the standing rigging and spreaders for this purpose.
