Caribic to Argentina

Hello all,
I have plans to arrive next feb in the carribean and then leave april/may for south america. Now I was already told, that this is difficult. Has anybody done this or is able to give me some advise.
The boat is a 41 Jeanneau. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts of you experienced cruisers - since I am not yet 😀😉. Thanks Paul

Re: Caribic to Argentina

The problem is sailing SE from the Caribbean down the coast of South America to the eastern tip of Brazil. You will be going dead against strong trade winds and currents for about 2000 miles until you turn that corner.

Not impossible but it is a very, very hard beat. Single handed it would be brutal.

Re: Caribic to Argentina

Why not take the canal, then hit it offshore and land in Chile? Then just sail thru the fjordland of Chile to Argentina.

Un abrazo,

Re: Caribic to Argentina

Having sailed from Recife to Martinique, that's also the route I would take: West Indies-Azores-Canarias-Argentina. Etc.

Unless one likes walking up an escalator running down. On the NE American coast the wind AND THE CURRENT are both against you. The current runs very fast too.
