Question Importing boat Canada to Michigan (Alpena)...?

I'm getting close to having everything else done, so the boat is bought and insured. My broker in Canada recommends having a captain run the boat from Georgian Bay to Michigan where I'll take delivery. That would avoid the 13.5% Canadian tax and I'm not sure what else. So I'm trying to get ahold of what paperwork I need ready for customs and Coast Guard when I meet the boat in Alpena. I've called and faxed the Coast Guard at Sault Ste Marie, they seem to want to help set things up with their part-time person in Alpena, but it is going slowly. They seem to have lost all the information I gave them, when my captain called later the same day I set things up, they had lost everything.

I spent a decade in the military, I know how things can go, best if I just have everything in a folder for the customs and Coast Guard, even if they have started setting up the process. Where can I get this kind of information?

This is a Cruisers 375, built in the U.S., that seemed important when I called.

Thank you, I'm filling these out and faxing to the Coast Guard, they contact the part-time people at Alpena, hope this works.
