Learn how to sail in New York City this Winter/Spring

Hi All,

I've sailed before, but I feel rather clueless and would like to get serious about learning from the ground up how to become a safe and knowledgable skipper.

The initial goal is to get to a stage where I can sail a 40ft boat down the east coast without it being a completely reckless undertaking.

It's okay if that takes me a few years but it bothers me that the sailing courses around New York City I could find don't get started until April. I would love to get on the water before then, even though it's cold.

Does anyone have recommendations?

Someone looking for crew, perhaps?

A weekend crash course happening in, or reasonably close to New York City?

Someone with a boat who is eager to get out on the water and is looking for a partner in crime?

I'm no Croesus, but I'm open to covering expenses, or paying tuition.

It is rare to find anyone sailing round here that early. Why? It's just not fun. That said I've sailed into NYC in February after a trip from Key West. Ice all over and lifelines covered. But I'm a crazy bastard!

If you are interested in traveling a bit... We offer seven and ten day live aboard courses in the Southern Caribbean - Grenada and the Grenadines. Let me know if you have any questions about our courses.
