Short:
Looking for tiller arms to mount onto 5/32"
rudder stock.
Long:
At some point in its
history the original
steering on my
boat (catamaran) was completely stripped (not surprising as it's 40 years old), and replaced with a twin ram hydraulic system. It works well but there are a few problems.
Firstly the rams are
outboard which they aren't designed for. Secondly, there is no back up, or
emergency steering (though I can rig something with some lines and blocks).
Anyway, I'm planning on getting the
boat close to the stock system with some added redundancy. This means I need tiller arms for my
rudder stock.
I've measured the stock and it seems to be 29mm. This is an odd size, and judging by the boat year (1977) is probably imperial 5/32" Not something I can find in
Europe.
Vetus make 30mm arms for around £80 which is reasonable. Obviously too big for my stock though. While I could go 40mm and sleeve the stock, I'd be concerned about slippage since there is no key or indent for a grub screw.
I can get arms made for around £160 per piece (I need two), but thought perhaps this mostly being a US oriented forum, that someone might know of tiller arms available off the shelf in the size I need.
