Anyone Got a Good Chain To Rope Anchor Setup?

anchor chain inspection the other day - about 8M of chain to be cut out - I'm tryig to decide whether to connect 30M of rope above the remaining 20M of chain instead of more chain - its rare i have to anchor in more than 3-4M so the remaining chain is enough for most times but the saving on weight and convenience of rope would be good for the occasional deep anchorage. Problem being how to make it work in the existing chain locker, which feeds directly through a hawsehole onto the anchor winch. The winch has a rope hawser on its opposite side which is very effective but i havent got any ideas yet on how i might feed the rope back into the chain locker. Wondering if anyone has found a serviceable solution to this kind of problem?

Re: Anyone Got a Good Chain To Rope Anchor Setup?

What windlass do you have? Are you sure it can't retrieve rope on the chain gypsy side?

Our gypsy is advertised as chain only, but it will retrieve rope if it's under only moderate tension. We have plenty of chain for almost every circumstance, but also a length of rope spliced to it, to lengthen the rode in case we need to anchor in unusually deep water. We also have a rope drum on the other side, but have not needed to use it.
