43' Doug Peterson/US built Bluewater Performance Cruiser

Now $84,000, SF Bay, CA

Semi-custom Doug Peterson designed (and US built) cutter rigged bluewater racer/cruiser. Big competitors in the offshore SORC and Clipper Cup. At least two have done multi-year circumnavigations (both over 10 years, not because they are slow but because they are so comfortable and enjoyable to sail).

A delight to sail and often does when others cannot. She is very comfortable at anchor (or at the dock). From her flush deck for lounging or hauling lots of cruising toys to her cockpit with a unique open transom for managing dinghies under tow, swimming or relaxing in the hammock chair (which you can helm from too!)

Multi-year refit. Cruised locally and well maintained. Improvements are made each and every month (most recently the remodeled hard dodger: larger, new windows for excellent visibility).

She is a fast lightweight kevlar-epoxy hull, yet comfortable and stable with her 13'3" beam. Many liken her to a Swan, Baltic /DP 42, J- boat meets a Passport.

1982

LOA: 42'4"

Beam: 13'3"

Draft: 7'5"

Weight: 18,000 lbs

Engine: Yanmar 30hp

Re: 43' Doug Peterson/US built Bluewater Performance Cruiser

Most enjoyable sailing boat I've ever been on. We have literally set the sails and sat there and watched her sail herself without touching the helm.

Built to high tech standards (hull includes kevlar and stringers) for offshore work. Sails well in all points and weather. Almost 20% have circumnavigated (and although swift boats, they took 13 & 18 years).

Below this S43 is the most comfortable and cruiser friendly. Queen aft cabin, lots of ventilation, safe three step ladder, convertible dinette, big pilot berths, elec head, separate shower w/seat, small workshop and v. Wet and dry storage for months at sea. Improved dodger. Custom cut out transom for simple boarding, dinghy access, diving, mobs. Small cockpit for ocean standards, however we've had 9 for sundowners and snacks. Plus, the seats fold down where two can sleep on the teak cockpit sole. Hard bimini (which hangs a hammock chair nicely) with canvas to the dodger. Flush deck for two dinghies, or 11-12' dinghy and kayak and sups. Cutter rigged. 43' loa, 13.3" beam, 7.5" draft, max prop. Hauling out soon for bottom paint and replace cutlass. She's been all over the SoPac.

175nm days, 200 have been done. Excellent blog of sistership cruising for over 20 years documents just how much of a rare gem these most successful of IOR era boats they are.
