Siri, BR 44 CC steel ketch - ready to leave 2020...

We bought her 2016 from the original builders, who realized they run out of time.
Our boat is a Bruce Roberts 44 Center Cockpit , built in steel (indoors all of the time, for about 20 years) painted inside - out with epoxy. Engine is a 7 lit diesel, Volvo MD 70 A (natural aspirated, 150 hp) hooked up to a Twin Disk reduction connected through a Aquadrive coupling and 50mm (almost 2 inch) propeller shaft and (right now) a 26 inch diameter 3-blade fixed propeller. Wire steering from helm. 250 mm / 10 inch bow thruster installed, without motor.
No further interior nor instrument or rigging - that´s all left for us to decide and get (which suits us fine).

Occasionally, in this thread, will we show how we proceed in the process of making her whole.

Our intension in the process are to get her sail ready in 3 years:
We are not aiming for speed nor show - we do our best to build and achieve an overall safe and easy handling vessel with good endurance (comfortable when possible) for two persons. When it´s time to cast off we just want to be as ready as you possible can when the weather shows up on the horizon.
Here we welcome questions and experience about our solutions in both layout and choice of parts, materials and over all plans.
Thanks for dropping in !

Now it´s around freezing point and I´m still sorting out and planning what different type of "help-system" we intend to have and what type of changes need to be done to accommodate those installations.

Anyway, We let her sit outside without cover, just to see what kind of impact the weather (snow, wind and cold) has to her layout. It´s our way to learn a little of what works and what doesn´t, in the Swedish (not too harsh) winter climate, as we later on hope to visit some places with "risk for snow" (we´re not just in this for the sunny islands).

First look (all it took) to make a down payment.
Pic 2:
First time outside, get a full view of her.
Pic 3:
Trailer (and Siri) arrive home, after 400 km/ 250 miles "road trip".
Pic 4:
Lifting her in place (who said size doesn´t matter...?!?) - guess we´ll need a still bigger crane when taking her off to the see in a few years.
Pic 5:
Gangway to get onboard easy.

First winter conditions of Siri´s life.

Thanks for looking - I put your blog among my favorites on my computer. BTW - It seems you have much better conditions to do outdoor work - compare to ours right now.
Rest my case of physical changes till summer comes back here.

That looks like a convenient rock/gangway.
So the interior is empty?

Greetings Svante and Cia!

That BR44 is a stout boat and should be comfortable when finished.

I like pilot house boats.
I like that yours has a solid handrail around the deck too.
It looks nice.

Keep posting photos as you make progress.

One thing I would want for this design is a swim platform off the stern, and would consider building something that can be raised and lowered (not solid or fixed) but would not interfere with a good wind vane steering setup either.

Good luck and best wishes for fulfilling your dreams and reaching your goals!
