Re: Buying a boat and bringing back to Texas

Unlike the state of California and Virginia (and many others I suspect) you do not have to pay property taxes when you buy a boat (or a car for that matter).. In those two states, they tax you to death..

I didn't see anyone mention it, in Texas you have to pay a registration fee ($110.00) every 2 years.. Unlike the original poster, if you buy a boat already registered in Texas, but with more than 90 days from when the current registration expires, you do not have to pay this fee.. That is until you need to re-new your registration (and get the new stickers).. Fortunately, the stickers are good for 2 years.. flk k

Re: Buying a boat and bringing back to Texas

Seems to be the same as I recall, if you can prove taxes paid elsewhere, then not due in Texas.

Verification of Sales Tax Paid - One of the following is acceptable to show proof that sales or use tax was paid for the item in question. ... (4) Receipt from another state's governmental agency ... (6) Proof of tax paid to seller (Bill of Sale or Invoice) f o f tax pa id to se ller (Bill o f Sa le or Invo ice )
