Until today few official
charts for
Sweden have been available at a reasonable cost.
For raster
charts Soltek.se has offered
BSB files for
Sweden and more. Due to a weak encryption and other reasons that shop will soon close.
A new
OpenCPN plugin will in a very near future make Soltek's supply useful again together with other chart providers. Please stay tuned for more info about that
plugin.
Official Swedish vector charts in the oeSENC_pi format may be available if we together can complete the
funding project described herein. O-Charts need 150 users to join for signing the Swedish-SMA
contract. The
funding project started yesterday 27th and already several users have signed.
So far O-Charts didn't signed a Swedish
contract due the relatively high prize level compared to for example
Norway and other countries around but if the user interest is there we may still get the opportunity. The cost for a complete Swedish chart set will be around 59€ (Local VAT dependent)

We strive to offer the Swedish Maritime Administration's vector charts to all OpenCPN users in Sweden and our guests from the surrounding area. o-charts.org has the contract with Sjöfartsverket to sell licenses for Swedish oeSENC charts on the desk. But we want to minimize the risk of recovering the upfront investment to a logical point, as it does not make sense that users who run o-charts have to put their money on the desk in order that others can use the chart. We are looking for a way to limit this risk and to go ahead, backed-up by a sufficient number of interested sailors before the contract gets signed. Crowd-funding is the way we want to go in this case.
The price for the complete set of 580 charts in EUR will be around 59 € depending on VAT in each country. Updates during one year included. Like all other oeSENC charts for OpenCPN, the charts do not disappear from the computer or the disc after the license has expired, just updating ends. Of course a renewed license will bring new updates on the desk.
The crowdfunding action is running until June 15, 2018 longest. We will need at least 150 subscribers to go ahead. With 150 licenses sold, all costs for server and other hardware are not fully covered, but the idea is that once initiated, hopefully there will be a spread in Sweden and the world around so eventually we will be more than the first 150. In case we don't reach our target the subscription will be paid back automatically. No risk.
