I'm not familiar with IPS drives. What is wrong with them?

They surely have some advantages, noise, limited exhaust, space required, fuel savings, ease of handling...

But the maintenance costs are pretty high. Once they fail, you're at the mercy of very specialized Volvo technicians. Also unless it has changed with the new IPS versions, maintenance + oil change is required every 250 hours and a haul out just to change oil.

That does sound like a pain...
But you have to admit it is a beautiful boat. I think FP has some of the best aesthetics of any catamaran power or sail

The FP MY 37 has straight shaft drive and 2.6 foot draft.
The FP MY 40 has IPS drives with 3.7 foot draft
The FP MY 44 Has IPS drives with 4.3 foot draft

And a supervisor at a local yard told me they add about $4k to the cost of a bottom job. Yikes.

But FP sure does build a beautiful boat.
