Ericson 30 v. Hunter 28

Thanks again for all the advice. I currently sail a MacGregor 26d (9.9 yamaha outboard) and love how she sails. But she is sparse on liveability. Was hoping to find a compromise with better comfort.

Also, i plan to move to the coast within 3 years so i wont be trailering much. Maybe once per year.

IMO. For camping and trailering a swing keel with a large cockpit and boom tent might make sense. Lake camping and coastal cruising probably require different boats.

You need a Corsair 31 trimaran! I do too but don't have one.....yet.

As far as sailing ability, pointing and ruggedness, the ErIcson, hands down. The Hunter isn't even in the same league. Yes they are tender, but at 15 degrees they stiffen up and are awesome. Yes I owned an Ericson, but it was a 26. The same boat, just shorter. In fact unless you put them side by side they look the same. You will ask get more resale value from the Ericson. Hunters are not as well made, probably slightly lighter,. I loved my Ericson.

What Island Time said. You also need to add on the weight of the trailer itself. I own an Ericson 25. The gross trailering weight for this boat is somewhere between 8,000 and 9,000 pounds. You should go on the Ericson Forum and start a thread with this question. There's a fellow named Randy Rutledge who trailers an Ericson 29. I would consider him to be the expert on trailering boats boats in this size range.

December 2014, I sailed alone my 1988 Ericson 34 from Beaufort, NC to St Martin (French West Indies) in 11 days -Would have made it in 9 days with a crew for I wasn't pushing her too hard. All this to say GO ERICSON ! They're very well built: I would choose an Ericson 29 over a Hunter 30 ! I found my Sundance on lake Michigan for I was looking for a fresh water sailboat. All I had to add was a second GPS, a third reef on the mainsail & a second hand Hydrovane self steering to complement the Autohelm & the armament for offshore sailing. I installed the Hydrovane midship but I have to move a bit to Port to put my swim ladder back...

Catalina 25 is great trailerable boat.
I owned one for a few years for exactly that reason.
