Help me identify these items in my bilge... PLEASE? ;)

Lifted the forward sole yesterday and found my knotmeter/depth sounder/transducer looking stuff (if I get too technical for some of you I'll bring it down a notch ).
.
I'm wanting to know which is which...
I'd like to know the best way to check them out for function...
And if any need replacing... suggestions for removal...
.
I'm going to take a wild guess first though... Looks like a P79 transducer next to some mystery device while the knotmeter (lady in red) is over by herself?
.
AAAAAAAAAnnnnnd!
In a couple of the pics... you can see the, "no longer a surprise", wiring job I found there also.. under the tape wraps...
.
I'm thinking the guy in the picture might have been the boat electrician before I bought it?
Certainly looks like he has the right attitude... along with ample tape, wire nuts, and all... lol
.
Thank you... y... muchas gracias!

The knotmeter is definitely the redhead. It has a grove in it so it only goes in one direction. Can be removed by unscrewing the head and pull it out. There should be a plug to go in its place. You can attach an ohmmeter between the wires and spin the wheel to see if it has a signal.

The small round one looks like a transducer for a depth finder. Each manufacturer has their own ohm reading.

The large round one, not sure, but could be for a fish finder, which have multiple transducers for different applications, even a with temperature sensor.

The wire repair should have been wrapped in foil to keep bleed over out if the system.

side by sides... small one, std dept finder transducer. Lg one... shoot thru hull transducer. If you open the top, you will probably find it full of mineral oil. Would bet if you chase wires, you will find the std transducer not connected. Later thru hull added to replace?

I notice the label on the transducer cable says "Airmap transducer". Perhaps you have an "AirMap" instrument?

That would be "Airmar". Airmar make most of the transducers on the market today, even if they are private labeled. That particular unit is almost certainly a fish-finder/sonar transducer, as someone else already pointed out.

Re: Help me identify these items in my bilge... PLEASE? ;)

Thanks all!
.
I'll check things out!
What looks to me like the Airmar P79 has what I thought might be water in the top... silicone around the base.

I thought the little one next to it was possibly a through-hull due to the threaded body.
I have switches labeled at the Nav Desk for Depth Sounder... I'l check that out.
I have readouts at the helm for instruments also... can check their wiring routes and connection.

The boat also came with some instrumentation that wasn't hooked up.
To include a new P79...

My vote---

Redhead is speed and I think the airmar was a transducer mounted for depth on the Raymarine. The smaller traducer was probably for the Standard horizon depth

Re: Help me identify these items in my bilge... PLEASE? ;)

The Raymarine DSM25 is a black box sounder (i.e. sonar), so the Airmar transducer most certainly goes with that. The DSM25 would connect to the A60 chartplotter/fishfinder, which would display the data. The other two through hull transducers are for the Signet speed and depth displays.

The Raymarine A60, another unbiased chartplotter fishfinder combo review.

Re: Help me identify these items in my bilge... PLEASE? ;)

So now I'm wondering if I can use my Signet at the cockpit with the P79?

Just working on whether I should pull the two Signet instruments on the pedestal or would I be able to use them still?

I'll also be doing some internet searching for manufacturer info

Thanks!

Here's the manufacturer info for the Signet SL172 depth sounder: http://www.signetmarine.com/products...172/SL172.html

And for the Airmar transducer: http://www.airmar.com/uploads/brochures/p79.pdf

Not sure that the Airmar transducer would work with the Signet instrument. Is the existing depth transducer, next to the Airmar, not working?

Not sure. I'm hoping to see if I can figure that out today.
Thanks for the links!

off boat currently but we have the same signet depth

uses an rca type connector for the transducer. One of them aboard is inside with just water - occasionally I have to top it up. The other is through the hull.

Both work great. Cheap replacement for the inside-the-boat route if your through-the-hull quits.
