Lagoon 440 Inverter .... help please ?

Can anyone help me with some Lagoon 440 inverter questions?

We have an Enag ONS 230VAC inverter which has worked perfectly but has now stopped. Batteries are fully charged from shore power. Lights etc all work fine.

The inverter however has stopped .....

- When we push the on/off button on the inverter, nothing happens;
- The inverter's power light is not lit;
- There's a soft ticking or clicking noise coming from the unit.

We have all the breakers on the main electrical board in the right positions.

We have searched manuals and boat etc and can't find any other breakers ..... but some manuals say there should be a breaker on the left in the generator locker .... but we don't seem to have this on ours. We have reset all the other breakers and shore power etc to no avail.

Can anyone give suggestions on other breaker locations or what might be going on before we shell out for a marine electrician?

Thanks

Re: Lagoon 440 Inverter .... help please ?

Remember you are playing with lethal voltage on the output side of the inverter, so if you are not competent to do so call in the professionals.

Three areas that may be causing your lack of 230 volt AC output.

1: It needs 12 volts into it. Check input has 12 volts DC going in when switched off then when switched on (DC volt meter required). If no voltage when off you have a faulty low voltage feed to the inverter. If input voltage drops when switched on possibly bad connection on 12 v DC input or associated fuses and wiring. If OK go to 2.

2: It use that 12 volts to convert into 230 volts AC, has the fuse on the unit blown. If it has turn inverter off, then switch of the AC circuit breakers and replace fuse re-start inverter. If fuse OK go to 3

3: Turn all the 230 AC breakers and appliances connected to unit off, try to restart inverter, ideally an ac voltmeter across placed the output would be useful to confirm output. If it will not turn on inverter is faulty, repair or replace it.

If it does start with AC load disconnected then stops when you turn your AC breakers back on you have a faulty AC appliance or wiring connected to inverter. This needs to be investigated.

Remember you are playing with lethal voltage on the output side of the inverter, so if you are not competent to do so call in the professionals.

Hope this is of some assistance, happy if you contact me via private message if I can be of some help.

check for 12v at inverter input. you may have blown a fuse, though if it's making noise chances are it's getting power.

is this an inverter only, pass through inverter only, or inverter charger?

Thanks for your help.

We've not identified a fuse or circuit breaker specifically for the inverter .... not sure if it is inside the casing but it's hiding successfully.

I believe it is an inverter only ... not a charger.

Thanks again

Remember if you are shore power or genset running the 230v feeds back into the inverter so need to be careful, i foundout the hard way.
We have replaced 3 xantrex inverters in 6 years on our 440

by the info your are giving, it looks like the problem is internal. Check to see the input and then check the output at the inverter. give the readings... sounds like it is fried...

Although I am not familure with your boat I pulled a guide to the Lagon 440 from http://horizonyachtcharters.com/bvi/files/2013/0 /Operations_Manual_for_Lagoon_440_2009.pdf and confirs what i suspected. Pull the 110 breakers to shed any load and with the engine set for 1400 RPM, you should see around 13.5 on the DC meterr if the generator(alternator) is charging. If not the problem lies there.The clicking is probably the Inverter start relay trying to pull in. but without a decent DVM (test meter) you are well advised to call in a marine electrican who knows that type of inverter or makers representative. Not only is the ouput voltage lethat but the voltages present inside of the case in a working inverter are higher DC as well as AC and even more lethal.
Hope this helps. best 73s, Dave [OldBlueBear.]

try to start the inverter in the dark/if light flickers from inside the case unplug and replace /don't touch the case when on /if a 400 volt cap blows from low voltage they make a clicking sound and ark out the end of the cap/
