Annapolis / Bermuda Race Tracker

I happened to see these guys headed down the bay against the wind early Saturday Morning when I sailed off my anchorage North of Cape Charles.

I was on the Eastern side of the bay. I noticed right off how close to shore they were carrying their tacks so I knew at that time it could be a race.

It was fun watching them and their very fast boats.

The leaders are 20 (Sly, an XP44) and 34 miles out (Tenacious Navy 44).

Fun stuff.

The second place boat has a bit more speed and he is the boat I crossed on Saturday Morning when I left my anchorage just North of Cape Charles on the Chesapeake Bay and had no idea this race was happening

Re: Annapolis / Bermuda Race Tracker

Did that race a few years ago. Lotsa fun. It’s really two races in one; down the bay then out to Bermuda. Two different animals.

The Navy boats are incredibly well coached. They always do well unless they experience a failure.

What was shocking to me is how slow the McGregor 65 was. They must be booze cruising it.

XP44 should have crossed the line first by a mile. But in ocean racing everyone has different wind and that can screw with your strategy.

The XP44 did cross the Finish Line first but was beaten by Tenacious (Navy 44) on PHRF. You can back up the tracker and see it.

I read (on Sailing Anarchy) where the XP44 had a PHRF Rating of 21 and Tenacious (a Navy 44) 81.
