Online standing rigging suppliers?

Hello,

I am looking into replacing my standing rigging this year (if the budget allows). Does anyone have any experience with any of the online standing rigging dealers?

Can anyone make recommendations?

There's a couple local shops around here, but rumor has it they are over priced. I would like to have some comparables before I approach them.

Thanks

Re: Online standing rigging suppliers?

I replaced all my standing rigging last year. I used riggingonly.com to get my baseline prices, but found my local rigging shop to be substantially less expensive ( morgan OI 41 ketch 12 stays!!) rigging only quote came out to around $3900 USD and my local shop (I'm in canada) came out to $3800 CAD so about $30% less. I was floored!! Working with a local rigger also has the advantage that you can hand them the old rigging to make and if they make a mistake its on them! If you just email in the dimensions, mistakes are on you!

Re: Online standing rigging suppliers?

We purchased all new standing rigging for our Hunter 40.5 from riggingonly.com in 2015. They had the best prices online, the quality was first-rate, the fit was perfect to the mm (they used the stock specs for our boat) and their customer service and responsiveness was top notch.

The nearest rigger is 10,000 miles away, so everything is online for us.

Re: Online standing rigging suppliers?

I just bought a forestay from Rigging only. The price was better than Defender or my local rigger. The advantage for me was the I could talk to a rigger Tom (who might be the owner) to get some technical advice. I ordered the wire with a swaged top and I reused my Stalock fitting buying a new cone etc. He also ordered a part for me from Furlex. He stocks both US and Metric
1x19 wire. (I needed 10mm) . Outstanding and quick service at a very competitive price. Tim (Tartan 41/43 1974)

a number of good sources for rigging online. I would just caution that all SS wire is not created equal. Sometimes the lowest price is not the best deal so check the supplier, their reputation, where they source the wire, etc.

Riggingonly.com has mill spec sheets on all wire; contact them for a copy.

I used riggingonly in 2008 for a complete refit.
50% of the bid of a local rigger (Puget Sound) and excellent support and results.
Very happy with the--highly recommended.

Much appreciated guys. I'll definitely check into riggingonly before going for local quotes.

From post #2 in this thread:

PErhaps this is not a "bad review", but hardly enthusiastic!

If you send Rigging Only the old rigging they will copy it exactly or make modifications as necessary. Last year I sent them my old rigging (one each of intermediate and lower) with a photo of the turnbuckles. The shrouds were copied and the lower was shortened based on the photo.

Shipping the wire 2 ways adds a bit to the cost, but ensures that the rigging is the correct size. In a few weeks, I'll be shipping my lifelines to them for replacement.

When I talked to the owner last year he mentioned he was getting a lot of business from South America.

I guess its like everything else in life, YOU need to know your prices and factor everything in to a job! For me shipping my old rigging would have added a couple hundred to the price as 12 stays weighed probably 2-300lbs ( the back of my SUV noticed the weight!! ). I honestly was going to go with Riggingonly.com until I (on an off chance) decided to get a quote from my local shop! Just saying! it's boat show season, so extra discounts may be had too! never hurts to ask!
