GPS Receiver in Steel Boat

Hello everyone, we have a steel sailboat and are interested in having a tablet with navionics app to use as a back up chartplotter.

We already have a Raymarine chartplotter, and Furuno, but since we are hoping to do some serious cruising are interested in getting a tablet for the convenience of carrying it onshore for wifi, and might as well put the navionics app on it. My question is, does anyone know of a GPS receiver (like the puck) which is waterproof, and can be installed permanently outside with a usb plug to hook it directly to an android tablet.

I assume the GPS + Glonass (inside the tablet I want) will work fine when I am outside, but since we have a steel boat it probably won't get a fix inside. Basically, if I use it inside it will sit on the nav station, so a USB-corded receiver would be nice...sit it down and plug it in.

Am I on the right track here, and can anyone provide me with a product suggestion...I have looked online but didn't find a outside GPS receiver compatible with android.

Thanks in advance.

Try it first before you buy anything.

Does your tablet have USB?

There are many GPS antennas (often coupled with VHF/AIS) designed for marine use, but AFAIK none of them can be connected directly to a USB port. There may be some kind of adapter you could use.
