Cape Cod Canal to Halifax

Hi All,
Planing a trip from Newport RI to Halifax, Nova Scotia
The plan is to do a short hop to Cuttyhunk the first day (20nm)
to acclimate some new crew.
Second day: depart Cuttyhunk about 3 hours before east bound flood
at the Canal, then put in at Sandwich MA for the night.
Day 3, either head for Provincetown or swing around and head for
Halifax, more or less on the rump line.
2 experienced crew, 3 relative beginners, sound vessel with all
necessary gear
Seeking local knowledge for the passage.

Looks like you have it pretty well planned out. Make sure as you approach the CC canal you contact the canal authority on the VHF--they'll tell you when you can transit, but if you arrive early you can anchor off to the side.
The rest is straightforward: keep as far off of Cape Sable as is convenient. The entrance to Halifax is pretty easy, and the Northwest arm has good holding and a public dinghy dock all the way at the end. Lovely town, nice people.
