Florida west coast boatyards

Does anyone know of a boatyard on Florida's west coast that will allow the boat owner to paint his own boat?

I would like to paint the bottom with anti fouling paint and the sides of the boat.

Charlotte Harbor Boat Storage allows owners to grind and paint until their arms fall off. We did our bottom job there and enjoyed our stay.

Right in St Pete is Salt Creek Boatyard where you can do all your own work+they supply air for air sanders or spray. Charlotte Harbor Boat storage is 5 hours from Boca Grand and you must go thru a self operated lock to get there

I was told there was one at Port Everglades. The old gent that told me was in Ft. Myers and went there. There was a yard east of Le Belle , on the Okeechobee ditch, that appeared to be a do it yourself year.

You may want to consider Shell Point Marina in Ruskin ... it is closer to St. Pete and reasonably priced.

That would be Glades Boat Storage east of La Belle on the Okeechobee Waterway.

Glades Boat Storage is owned and operated by boaters, do it yourself boat storage, no tides, fresh water

I have been very happy with Safe Cove Boatyard fight next to Charlotte Harbor Boatyard. They allow do it yourself, nice roomy neat boatyard. A lot more room than Charlotte.

Wayne,

Looking at the link it looks more impressive than 13yrs. or so ago. We only stopped long enough to find they didn't sell fuel or beer.

They have a lot of boats there, especially during hurricane season. They don't call themselves a marina, just "boat storage", nevertheless a good place to do DIY work.

From the link it appears as though they have gotten a larger travel lift than when I was passing. Probably a good place to meet some nice boat owners.

I believe Port Charlotte does. Enter at the locks at Cattle Dock Point. Looks like it might be storm safe too.

Re: Florida west coast boatyards

Thanks for the feedback.
Shell Point would be a good choice if the water is deep enough. My draft is 6' 2".
Salt Creek no longer allows do it yourself work.
Port Charlotte is a bit of a haul but it would be worth it.

Apollo Beach Marina was there for a year doing all kinds of refitting, sanding, painting, etc. Really good restaurant right down the street, 100yds.

Shell point is great!! Jason will go out of his way to take care of you and your boat. They do have room for you to DIY but you can not "spray"at shellpoint - only rolling is allowed.
