Re: Complicated 12v to T105 conversion

Real world experience. I'm a full-time live aboard that has started both yanmars I've owned using trojan deep cycles for ten years, I haven't seen any adverse effects.
There is zero problem using deep cycle batteries to start our diesels.

I put a small 6 amp charger on it for 45 minutes and was running again. Try that on a 400AH house bank and it would take 24 hrs.
If the house bank is used for starting the engine there is no need for "quick recovery". If you start with 300 amps (your starter will probably use less than this) for 10 or 15 seconds you have only used one amp hour give or take. Nothing to recover really.

While one deep cycle battery has less cranking amps than a starter battery the multiple of 4 is more than sufficient for starting.
