Shipping gear back home from out of country customs?

We need to ship our safety gear back home after a crossing. The gear was purchased used( we do have copies of proof of purchase ) in the US , we are now in Germany, and going to ship the items back home in one box. The used purchase price is less than the the allowed $ amount to declare as purchases, but being it came with us from the US does it need to be declared?
Anyone with any experience in this? We have 3 months left in our trip but want to send this home while we can.
