Beneteau Oceanis 38

Shopping for a new sailboat. Admiral fell in love with Oceanis 38 (used, two cabin, Cruiser version, loaded). I love sailing perforomance but am sceptical about practicality of internal layout for passaging and long term cruising (lack of storage, limited galley, lack of handholds, smallish tanks...). Any input from anyone intimately familiar with this boat is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

One good thing about the Oceanis 38 is that it's highly configurable. You can order a new one with the layout you want. Handholds are not a problem from what I've seen, since everything is in arm's reach, and the two cabin version has a lot of storage.

If you want to consider a similar boat for comparison, the Dufour Grand Large 382 is the same size and has about the same number of configurable options as the Oceanis 38. Overall I think it's a little nicer, but I really like the arch on the Beneteau.

Dufour looks really nice and seems much better layed out then Oceanis 38, but the Admiral really wants a centerline island berth, so our choices are rather limited...

There is a big long thread about just this boat and IIRC they started their own sub-forum right here.

Handholds? I don't need no steekin' handholds....:facepa lm:

Why would anyone notice that kinda thing???
